Sweeping ocean views complement our complete renovation of this beautiful oceanfront residence in La Jolla, California. McCulley Design Lab was engaged to transform the blufftop estate into a contemporary yet timeless coastal retreat.
The complete interior and exterior design renovation of the residence centered around an indoor-outdoor dynamic, combining natural light with a muted and controlled color palette. Following in the footsteps of peaceful, elegant materiality, the redesign included an open concept kitchen, living room, bathrooms, wine cellar, numerous outdoor communal gathering spaces and an Additional Dwelling Unit (ADU design).
We sought to combine a variety of materials that spoke to the makeup of the home, one that takes visitors on a journey of light, space, and the natural world. It is a purposeful translation of architectural vocabulary that seamlessly integrates the location and environment in meaningful ways.
The home is a masterclass in the incorporation of coastal, natural elements, deftly weaving them throughout the residence with a careful hand that pulls on facets of calm, luxurious relaxation. Our Solana Beach-based design firm modeled specific portions of the home to create an unobstructed frame of the ocean horizon, giving residents the freedom to enjoy the famous California sunsets from their balcony and breathe in the ocean breeze.
