Barks and Rec

< back

McCulley Design Lab was engaged by Seaview Investors, a privately owned hotel investment company, to consult on the development and design of a luxury pet resort and hotel in Marina Del Rey, California. Our central mission was to bring the outdoors inside, and provide a variety of play-friendly spaces for both our 2 and 4-legged visitors. Features of the rooms included specialty pet suites for boarding, sculptural climbing structures, bridges and hiding nooks, as well as an expansive play yard.

It was key to integrate the “parks and rec” theme to the environment, incorporating nods to the great outdoors, water, lakes, and boating. This was further explored with the wide range of natural materials utilized throughout the property. Textures of the outdoors were mimicked with the clever usage of materials like moss and grass that coupled natural wood fencing and furnishings. Playful brand statements and graphic imagery made this place a pet-lover’s dream.

Scope of work included consultation on overall retail and resort strategy, interior design, sourcing of furniture and fixtures, environmental graphic design, naming and retail design consultation.
